Now for haircut number 2!


So off I went to Fratelle in Camberwell. 
A salon that I used to go to years ago and was always happy with....until the hairdresser left.  The one that left my looking exactly how I wanted it.


Thinking I'd give it another go 10 years later I went in to see if they could cut my hair and reproduce the great cuts they used to do.


Well that wasn't going to happen, instead I walked out with big blow waved curls. He blow waved my hair with a big brush and left it in my hair to create a big curl, a curl that I didn't ask for. That's ok though because a blow wave can be easily fixed.


One thing I was left with was a lopsided haircut, one that was obvious because it was about 6-8 cm's shorter on one sided than the other. 
Friends suggested that I go back and get it fixed for free but I didn't feel comfortable letting someone cut my hair again once they cut it unevenly!


A few days later I try and get that fixed too , which would make it haircut number 3. 


If I feel like humiliating myself, I may post a picture with my next post to show you the long layers that I received instead, around my ears! There's a nice mullet for you to look forward to seeing!

My first hairdresser review.

Ok, so I’ve had 3 haircuts in 2 weeks. Certainly not by choice let me tell you!

Hairdresser number one was The Brown Hare in Surrey Hills Melbourne.

I was looking forward to having a semi permanent colour and cut as I hadn’t  had a haircut for quite some time. The reason for this is that I’ve become quite scissor phobic in the last few years!  

My hair’s quite thick with a natural wave and it sits well when it’s long (past my shoulders)  with long layers. This is exactly what I asked for.  Instead I got a cut that was not very noticeable and not finished off, shaped or thinned out.  

I don’t like too much thinning but certainly some is necessary on my hair.  I remember years ago after a blow dry was complete, a hairdresser would finish off the hairstyle by chipping into it or slightly feathering around the face which always made my hair look great. I haven’t had this done for probably over 10 years!  

When I asked this particular hairdresser if she was going to thin it out she said “I already did.” Mmmm, ok.

The semi permanent colour was ok although left on for about 45 minutes. It was a rich chocolate colour which left a bit of a stain that eventually went away.

I was disappointed with this experience because I felt that not much effort was put in. What I requested was a basic cut with long feminine layers, nothing outrageous or difficult and time consuming. 

There is a positive though. A  café next door that does great coffee and the most delicious tandoori chicken focaccia I’ve ever had!  There’s nothing like the comfort found in food when all else goes pear shaped!

I’ll let you know about my second haircut which i had that same week on my next post….the lopsided one!

I’m  so angry that I could almost pull my hair out!

After drying off my hair this morning I just stood there in the bathroom looking to see how on earth I can fix this mess. Nothing I do to it makes a difference unless I put it in a ponytail, that’s the reason I got a haircut in the first place.

Actually I didn’t just get one haircut, I got 3….. in 2 weeks!

Each haircut was an attempt to fix the previous mistake. The first one hardly did anything and it wasn’t shaped at the end or finished properly, the  second one was  lopsided and  was about 6cm’s shorter on one side than the other and the last one left me with a semi mullet. So there you go. Someone asked me why I didn’t return to the original place to fix it. Why would I? They stuffed it up in the first place!

Ok, I’ve had my outburst, now I’m going out to get a coffee and buy some bobby pins.

I don’t give a damn about my hair today.

There’s nothing like a dash of asthma to make everyone’s Saturday miserable, especially for my 5 year old baby boy. All I can do today is pander to all his needs. Cuddles, food, drink, games (thank goodness for my iphone!) and for me, well a cup of Lady Grey  tea in one of my new favourite mugs is good enough.  

There’s something so soothing about tea and  drinking it out of a pretty mug makes it all the nicer.   

There’s one think that I can guarantee today….no one’s going to be admiring my hair!  In fact it probably looks just like the hairstyle in this picture, and my care factor would be zero even if i did look like this. All I care about today is being a mother and getting through the day.

Piss off asthma, you're an unwanted guest that I never want to see!  I just had to get that off my chest!

Is Hairdressing an Art?

Hairdressers create. They create a look .  A look that’s been described to them by you. To be able to visualize something  and create it is art.

You’re putting trust in the ability of another to create something that you want. If this wasn’t important you would cut your own hair or get a friend to cut it for you and hope for the best!

Braids, French rolls, plaits, layers, perms, highlights, colours, blow waves, straightening,  bowl cuts and mullets! These are all creations, even the ones we'd rather forget.

Is it more than just a learned technique that’s required to be a hairdresser? I always thought it was.  It’s something that I’ve been wondering recently as it seems to be getting harder and harder to get the right style.

Who else but some creative soul could have produced this beautiful style?

What is my hair saying today? This is what I wish my hair was saying today, just like in this photo of Brigitte Bardot. Such effortless style, perfect for any moment, any era. Unfortunately my hair is saying "how could you let them do this to me and why is this style so.....bad?" Unfortunately some things are out of my control but on a positive note, at least I was left with enough hair to attempt this beautiful do.

My unsexy hair…..here it is!

It’s such a good feeling when your hair starts to sit better after an ordinary cut. Soon enough I won’t be calling it a frumpy cut, although that’s still a few weeks away.

Notice the mushroom silhouette?  Just what I said that I was trying to avoid.

Why is it that every time I get a haircut I always see a woman with the most beautiful, long hair?  Then regret fills my every pore!

I guess what’s important is that each day I'm one day closer to how I want my hair to be and I’m able to use some gorgeous accessories to get me by until then.
